OBITUARY Mrs. G. E. Mentzel May 28, 1915

Eliza Dohrer was born November 17th, 1839 at Bargfeld (SIC), Germany. When twenty years of age she came to this country and made her home with her brothers, August and Henry, at St. Charles, Mo. Later she came with them to Cox Creek township, Clayton county, (IA). Here she was married to G. E. Mentzel on Feb. 11th, 1862, and lived here ever since. Five children were born to this union, one son Julius, preceded his mother in death on May 29th, 1885.

Mrs. Mentzel had always enjoyed good health, and even on the day of her death, May 28th, had helped perform the many household duties, as well as she was able for her age. About 10:30 o'clock in the morning, as she was sitting on a chair conversing with her husband, she complained of a pain in her jaw, and in a few minutes she sank down in her chair, a lifeless form. Without warning she had passed out of this world at the age of 75 years, 6 months and 11 days.

Her sudden departure is mourned by the aged husband, two sons and two daughters: Richard, Gustave, Mrs. Annie Schrampfer, at home and Amelia Schroeder of Wadena (IA). She is also survived by several grandchildren and one brother, August Dohrer of Elkader, and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Monday at her late home and in the German church, conducted by Rev. C.H. Franke, interment being made in East Side Cemetery. Relatives and friends mourn the departure of a faithful wife and loving mother, and all who knew her will revere her memory.
