James Arthur Johnson, 68, of Elkader, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, November 29, 2008, following a sudden illness.

Jim was born on July 1, 1940, in Elkader, to Arthur and Donna (Humphrey) Johnson. He attended Loras College in Dubuque and was in the U.S. Army for three years, including service in Germany. Jim married Patricia Moody of McGregor on November 7, 1964. Jim and Pat had one child, Robert, and two grandchildren, Samuel and Abigail.

Jim ran a successful insurance agency in Elkader for forty-four years. Along with being in the insurance business, Jim and his father Art were involved in the financing of the purchase of dairy cows throughout the Midwest. Jim owned a farm north of Elkader, where he and Pat resided. He also managed the family farms near St. Olaf with his brother Alan. Jim loved to go boating, play cards, attend Iowa football games, deer hunting, golf, travel, especially to Las Vegas, and dine with his friends and family.

Survivors include his son Robert; daughter-in-law Karen; grandchildren, Sam and Abby all of San Clemente, Calif.; his brother Alan and sister-in-law Georgana of Elkader. Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Pat, and his parents, Art and Donna Johnson of Elkader.

Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 2, 2008, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Elkader. Burial with Military Honors was at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Elkader.
