Roy Alvin Beckett passed away on May 27, 2009, in Bremerton, Washington. He was born in McGregor, Iowa, an area often called the “Little Switzerland of America,” on March 14, 1917, to parents Jeannette Mary (Adney) and Alvin Samuel Beckett.
After graduating from McGregor High School in 1934 he moved to Clinton, Iowa, where he was employed by Holland Furnace Co. Moving to the West Coast, he met and married Barbara Jensen of Monitor, Oregon. They have two children, Roger Roy and Debra Kay. He worked in the petroleum industry for 36 years (broken by service in the Navy) retiring in 1979 as manager of Technical Services with Tosco Corp.
He is survived by his children, five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
A service was held at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Bremerton, Washington, preceded by an hour for viewing and followed by a reception on June 2, 2009. The service included “Amazing Grace,” played on the bagpipes and full military honors. Final internment will be with Barbara in the Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon.
