Gene Carrol Kruse, 68, of Nevada, died of cancer on Monday, Sept. 8, 2003, at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines.

He was born Feb. 10, 1935, in Monona to LeRoy H. and Eda M. (Genz) Kruse. He was a graduate of Luana High School in Luana. He married Gretchen Tillotson on Aug. 30, 1952, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He retired in 1997 from Leprino Foods in Tracy, Calif. He was a member of the Milwaukee Road Historical Association and enjoyed model trains, gardening, woodworking and Chicago Cubs baseball. He had been a resident of Nevada for the past five and a half years.

Survivors include his wife, Gretchen, of Nevada; six sons, Phillip Kruse and Charles Kruse, both of Sacramento, Calif.; William Kruse and David Kruse, both of Nevada; Lyndon Kruse of Salida, Calif., and Kelly Kruse of Concord, Calif.; a daughter, Summer McDaniel of Nevada; 18 grandchildren and two great grandchildren; four (sic) brothers, Leo Kruse of Chaska, Minn., Marvin Kruse of Ames and James Kruse of Postville.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Eileen Mohs.

Memorial services were held on Friday, Sept. 12 at 1 p. m. at Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada with Pastor Myron D. Herzberg officiating.
