Funeral Services For Emil Kraus

Funeral services for Emil Kraus, 79, were held Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 26, at 2 o'clock at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran church with Rev. R. E. Langholz and Rev. Fred F. Darnauer officiating. Burial was in St. Paul Lutheran cemetery.

In July of 1967, Mr. Kraus underwent surgery and had not been well since. He died Saturday morning, Nov. 23, at a hospital.

Mr. Kraus was born the son of William and Elizabeth (Muschog) Kraus on April 1, 1889, at Garnavillo. He attended schools at Colesburg and Garnavillo. He lost both of his parents when he was 12 years old and then went to live with a brother for several years.

When he was 18 years old, after studying the Scriptures with Rev. L. Linnenburg, who served the Lutheran church at Elkport, he was baptized and became a member of the Lutheran church.

He was married to Freada Lundt, Jan. 22, 1914, at Guttenberg with Rev. J. Janzig performing the ceremony. After their marriage, they lived at Colesburg for two years, at Guttenberg for five years, two years near Castalia, then 17 years north of Luana, and five years south of Luana. In January of 1945, they moved to their home in Monona and became members of St. Paul Ev. Lutheran church.

In 1964, they enjoyed the privilege of observing their golden wedding anniversary.

Mr. Kraus was a farmer by profession but also enjoyed hunting and fishing in the midst of the beauties of northeast Iowa.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his brothers, Fred, William, August and Charles; and two sisters, Carrie Rienitz and Minnie Wentz.

Surviving are his wife, his daughter, Mrs. Wendell (Ivanell) Engelhardt of Farmersburg; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Donald Kraus, Elmer Borcherding, Marlin Lundt, Edward Handke, LaVern Kraus, Donald Lundt, Lawrence Wendt and Harvey Kraus.
