Funeral services for John Edward Kruse were held Monday, June 2, 1997 at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Monona with the Rev. Terry D. Hudson officiating. Schultz's Funeral Home of Monona was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Monona.

John Edward Kruse, son of Will and Amanda (Kregel) Kruse, was born July 24, 1918 at Monona, IA. He graduated from Monona High School and received a B.A. degree from Grinnell College.

Edward was united in marriage to Clara (Sheehy) Stavnes on April 24, 1983 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona. He was a dairy farmer and had been on the Board of Directors for Swiss Valley for 22 years.

Edward died Saturday, May 31, 1997 at the Good Samaritan Center in Postville, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Marian, who died in 1982; one sister, Pauline Parkinson, and one brother, Gerald Kruse.

Survivors include his wife, Clara; two sons, Thomas of Wauwatosa, WI, and Jerry of Monona, IA; step children: Suzanne and Bob Jones of Hiawatha, IA, John and Mary Stavnes of Bettendorf, IA, Jeff and Janis Stavnes of Storm Lake, IA, Patty and Peter Chechek of Evergreen, CO, Major Robert Stavnes of Alexandria, VA, Tim Stavnes of Billings, MT; grandchildren, Ann and Jim Kruse, Jessica and Gabe Kruse; step grandchildren, Rob and Brenda Jones, Jessica and Kelly Stavnes, Brandy, Mimi and Hollie Goltz; great grandchildren, Kevin and Josh Kruse, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers were Gabe Kruse, Jim Kruse, Lloyd Drahn, Jim Ernst, Robert "Smitty" Smith and "Ole" Marion Olson.
