OBITUARY: (from The Monona Leader newspaper, June 8, 1939)
Herman Carl Moritz passed away Thursday evening after a brief but severe illness.
He was born in Wagner Township, Clayton County, Iowa, on October 9, 1868 and baptized soon after his birth. On March 7, 1895 he was united in marriage to Amelia Lange at Luana (IA). On October 24, 1909, he renewed his baptismal vow when he became a communicant member of the Lutheran Church by the rite of confirmation.
The marriage of Mr. and Mrs. Moritz was blessed with seven children whose names are as follows: Mrs. Amy Crary of Madison, Wis.; Ervin W. Moritz of St. Olaf, (IA); Mrs. Edna Mitchell of Lemont, Ill.; Mr. William Moritz of Luana; Harold, Milo and Felix, all at home; eleven grandchildren and one great grandchild; also six sisters; Mrs. Mike Peters of Monona, (IA); Mrs. Celia Stadtmiller of Luana; Elizabeth of Chicago; Mrs. S.C. Klotzbach of Appleton, Wis.; Mrs. John F. Hubacher of Mason City, (IA); Mrs. Chas. Meckfessel of Cleveland (Ohio).
He reached the age of 70 years, 7 months and 22 days.
May God comfort those who mourn his death.
The sermon text was Romans 6,23; " For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
The service was in charge of Rev. Siefkes and was held from the home at 1:00 P.M. and from the Schultz Funeral Home at 1:30 P.M. Sunday. Interment was made in the City Cemetery.
