Funeral services for Frieda Klinkenberg were held February 20 at Witt Funeral Home, Elkader. The Rev. Karl E. Hansen officiated. Burial was at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Clayton Center.
Frieda Klinkenberg was born Aug. 29, 1901, in Monona, to Joseph and Matilda (Carlson) Appel. On January 30, 1924 she married Fritz W. Klinkenberg. They had two daughters and lived on a farm near St. Olaf until Fritz died in 1973. Frieda then moved into Farmersburg.
She died Feb. 18 at the Elkader Care Center. She was 80 years old. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers: Henry, John and William Appel; and a sister, Hannah (Appel) Bauning.
She is survived by her 2 children: Mrs. Mark (Delpha) Bowman of Garber and Mrs. Leslie (Pauline) Dubler of Dubuque; four grandchildren: Dennis and Darrell Bowman, David Dubler, Mrs. Phillip (Ruth Dubler) Brown, Dubuque, and two great-grandchildren. A sister, Mrs. Louise Reincke of Postville and two brothers, Otto Appel of Postville and Herman Appel of McGregor also survive.
