Lyle Marion Olson

Lyle Marion Olson, son of Joseph T. and Lillian Irene (Kittleson) Olson, was born May 25, 1922 in Clayton County, south of Postville, Iowa. He died Wednesday, February 1, 1995 at his home in Clermont. He was 72 years old.

Lyle was baptized and confirmed in the East Clermont Lutheran Church. Lyle attended the country school near his home and the Clermont High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. On August 31, 1945 he was married to Genevieve Peters at Clermont, Iowa. A son, Dennis, was born to this union. Genevieve died in 1952.

On July 18, 1954, Lyle was married to Eileene Mary Wedo in the West Clermont Lutheran Church. Three sons were born to this union. They lived in their present home in Clermont.

Lyle farmed for a time and then was employed at the Hygrade Meat Packing Company in Postville for 27 years. For the last 11 years, he was employed as a security guard for the Norplex Plant in Postville and retired on January 3, 1993. Lyle became a member of the West Clermont Lutheran Church in 1954. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Clermont and a 48-year member of the Sheehan-Olson American Legion Post No. 375 of Clermont.

Lyle was a skilled craftsman, creating wall hangings out of wood, of the Lord's Prayer, both in English and Norwegian. He loved his family and was an avid gardener.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Genevieve, a grandson Cory Christopher Olson and a sister-in-law, Martha (Mrs. Irvin Olson). Surviving is his wife, Eileene; four sons: Dennis (Doreen) of Delhi, Iowa, Michael (his fiancee Brenda Fadness) of Clermont, Randy (Ramona) of Elgin and Timothy (Krista) of Clermont; eight grandchildren: Dustin, Jennifer, Amber, Aaron, Lindsay, Whitney, Haylee and Tyler Olson; two brothers: Irvin Olson of Augusta, Montana and Cliff J. (Ida), of Postville and a sister, Mrs. Ted (Chrystol) Lovely of North Kingstown, R.I.

Funeral services were held Saturday, February 4, 1995 in the West Clermont Lutheran Church in Clermont, Iowa. The Reverend Joseph Nesheim officiated. Special music was provided by Arthur Amundson. Janet Helgerson was the organist. Military honors were performed by the Sheehan-Olson American Legion Post No. 375. Casket bearers were Robert Schott, Glen Dean, David Schott, Robert Mitts, Frank Olson and Charles Mitts. The Schutte Funeral Service of Clermont was in charge of arrangements. A Masonic Service was held Friday, February 3rd at the Clermont Funeral Chapel. Interment will be in the East Clermont Lutheran Cemetery, rural Postville.
