Margit Olson

Funeral services for Mrs. Margit Olson were held February 13 at 1:30 p.m. at the Marion Lutheran Church, Gunder. Burial was in the Marion cemetery.

Mrs. Margit Olson, daughter of Gunnar and Turi Vetterhus Landsgaard, was born October 9, 1894 in Nore Numedal, Norway. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church there. She received her education in the rural schools.

At the age of 19 she immigrated to America with her sister, Clara Holm, and her family where she made her home until her marriage. She attended Gunder school for one term after which she passed eighth grade examinations. She was then employed near Gunder.

On December 23, 1916 she was united in marriage to Ole E. Olson. They made their home in what was formerly the Lutheran parsonage until her husband retired in 1946. To this union was born four sons and one daughter: Telmer of Monona, Selina (Mrs. Larando Embretson) of Farmersburg, Olvin of Postville, Harry of Green Bay, Wisconsin, and Milton of St. Olaf.

She was a member of the Marion Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School for many years, and was a member of the church's Ladies aid and Dorcas Society, holding offices and committee posts in both organizations.

In 1954 she became seriously ill and spent 17 weeks in a Rochester hospital. She lived in the Lorando Embretson home from the time of her husband's passing away in August, 1955. When her health improved, she moved to her own home in July 1961.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister, Mrs. Tom Holm of Gunder; and a brother, Esten Landsgaard in Norway. She is survived by her children; 15 grandchildren; three sisters: Mrs. Hilda Dunserud of Elkader, Helga Landsgaard and Mrs. Eric Narverud in Norway, and one brother, Verbjorn Landsgaard of St. Olaf.
