Clifton L. Olson

Clifton L. Olson, son of Millard E. and Valdine (Wettleson) Olson, was born Nov. 24, 1919 on a farm in Wagner Township, Clayton County, near St. Olaf, Iowa. He died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 1993 in the Prairie Health Care Center at Prairie du Chien, Wis. He was 73.

He was baptized and confirmed at the Norway Lutheran Church, where he has maintained his membership. Clifton received his education in the rural schools near his home, and spent most of his life as a farm hand for his parents and neighbors.

After moving with his parents to Clermont in 1962, Clifton had been employed at the canning factory in Elgin. He became a resident of Prairie du Chien Health Care Center in April of 1990. He will be remembered for his fondness for trapping and hunting, and his interest in baseball.

He was preceded in death by his father on Dec. 29, 1976, his mother on Jan. 11, 1982, and his brother-in-law, Edwin O'Brien, on Feb. 5, 1993. He is survived by his sister, Margie O'Brien and her ten children. He is also survived by two aunts, Mrs. Richard Bigler of Knoxville and Lillie Trudo of Luana; and many cousins.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 9, 1993 at the Norway Lutheran Church, rural St. Olaf, the Rev. William Palmquist officiating. The Schutte Funeral Service of Clermont was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the church cemetery. Casket bearers were Dennis O'Brien, Terry O'Brien, Steven O'Brien, James O"Brien, Jeffrey O'Brien, Lori King, Gregory O'Brien, Randal O'Brien, David O'Brien and Michael O'Brien.
