Abbie was born May 15, 1891 near Monona, Iowa, to Fred and Catherine (Henkes) Koth. She was raised and educated in the area attending local school.
Abbie was united in marriage to John J. Reidel on May 10, 1910 at Fargo, North Dakota. One daughter Marian was born to this union. Together they farmed over the years near Monona and later retired to town. Due to John's failing health they moved to Edgewood, Iowa, in 1962 to be near Marian. John died on August 16, 1965. Abbie later lived with Marian for nine years until entering the Lutheran Home in Strawberry Point, Iowa, in 1988.
After an extended illness, Abbie died Tuesday night, January 7, 1992, at the Lutheran Home in Strawberry Point, Iowa. She was one-hundred years of age. Abbie was a long time member of Trinity United Methodist Church, and the Edgewood Order of the Eastern Star. She will be remembered as one who found much pleasure in gardening, working around the house,and in her family.
Abbie is survived by her daughter Marian Sheffert of Edgewood, IA; three grandchildren, Kay Booth and her husband William W. of Oak Lawn, IL, Lary Sheffert and his wife Jody of Halstead, KS, and Gary Sheffert and his wife Gaye of Arlington Heights, IL; nine great-grandchildren; and a special person in Abbie's life, Betty Sheffert of Strawberry Point IA, who is grandmother of two of Abbie's great-great-granddaughters, Joy and Abbie Sandhagen. Abbie is named for her great-great-grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband John; two great-granddaughters, Kandy Sandhagen and Karen Sheffert; a great-great-granddaughter Lana Sandhagen; a brother Harry Koth; and by her parents.
Casket Bearers: Gary Sheffert, Dave Sheffert, William S. Booth, William W. Booth, Lary Sheffert and Art Fudge.
