Orville Peterson

Funeral services for Orville Peterson were held Thursday, April 10, 1997, at 11:00 a.m. in the Norway Lutheran Church at St. Olaf, Iowa. The Reverend Marshall E. Hahn officiated. Music was provided by Corrine Landsgard, organist with David Wirkler, soloist. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Orville Elmer Peterson, son of Peter N. and Mary (Baumeister) Peterson, was born August 25, 1907 in Wagner Township, near Elkader, IA. He died Sunday, April 6, 1997 in Veterans Memorial Hospital at Waukon, IA. He had reached the age of 89 years, 7 months and 11 days.

He was baptized and confirmed at the Norway Lutheran Church near St. Olaf and attended the rural schools near his home.

On June 10, 1936 he was married to Helen Kuhse at the Norway Lutheran Church. To this union, two children were born. They lived in the Luana and Postville areas before making their home near St. Olaf.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Helen, on March 6, 1989, three grandchildren, Vernon Schuety, Kimberly Jackson, Susan Zeitler, and three brothers, Anton Peterson, Melvin Peterson and Phelman Peterson.

Surviving are his daughter Ardis and her husband, William Schuety, a son Dean Peterson and his wife, Eva, all of St. Olaf, IA, eight grandchildren, Elizabeth Peterson, Bradley Peterson, Patrick Peterson, Robert Schuety, Steve Schuety and his wife, Joann, a granddaughter-in-law, Christine Schuety, Brian Zeitler, Gary Zeitler and his wife, Kathy, Les Zeitler and his wife, Sue, and 11 great-grandchildren, Clayton, Chad, Derek, Megan, Austin and Autumn Schuety, Shari, Joanne, Marie Zeitler, Sylvia Jackson and Andrew Zeitler.

Orville was a member of the Norway Lutheran Church.

Casket bearers: Steve Schuety, Robert Schuety, Gary Zeitler, Les Zeitler, Clifford Kuhse, Norman Peterson and Jim Gordon.
