Arnold J. Lenth age 86 of Prairie du Chien and formerly of Garnavillo passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at the Great River Care Center in McGregor, IA.

Arnie was born on February 22, 1923 in Farmersburg, Iowa, to Arno and Minnie (Voelker) Lenth. He attended country school and graduated from Garnavillo High School. Arnie married Marcy Lestina on November 21, 1957 at First Lutheran Church in Waterloo, Iowa.

Arnie farmed in the Garnavillo area from high school until 1988, including 32 years with his brother, Everett. After farming he worked for the State of Iowa Department of Agriculture as a pesticide investigator, retiring from that position in 1999. He was a life long member of the Clayton County Farm Bureau having served terms as president, vice president and voting delegate. He was a member of the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation Board of Directors for 12 years. He was a Director of the Allamakee-Clayton REC from 1973 through 1980. Arnie was an active member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Garnavillo. He served as Sunday School Superintendent for 8 years, was a Sunday School teacher for many years and served as congregation chairman.

Arnie was quick-witted and possessed a wonderful sense of humor, never missing an opportunity to share his latest joke with a friend. He was a loving and devoted family man and was extremely proud of his daughters and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Marcy of Prairie du Chien, 3 daughters; Jane (Dan) Strangstalien of LaCrosse, WI, Janelle (Dean) Konrardy of Dubuque, IA and Jolene Lenth of Madison, WI, 3 grandchildren; Nathan and Ellyn Konrardy and Alysha Strangstalien, 2 step grandchildren; Jessica and Jason Strangstalien and a sister Helen Bischoff of Garnavillo, IA. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter Jill, a brother Everett and 2 sisters; Lucille Behnken and Evelyn Schulte.

Funeral services will be Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 11:00 AM at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Prairie du Chien, Rev. Joe Irvin officiating, with burial in the Garnavillo City Cemetery in Garnavillo, IA. Friends may call on Friday, June 5, 2009 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Garrity Funeral Home in Prairie du Chien and at the church on Saturday, June 6, 2009 from 10:00 AM until the time of services.
