Second Man Jumps
Out of Way.(The Register’s Iowa News Service)
WAVERLY. IA. - Woodrow Radloff, 24, of Volga la., was killed when a temporary beam fell into the Wapsipinicon river southeast of Tripoli, la., Tuesday afternoon where a new bridge is being built.
As the beam rolled over it caught Radloff, who was working on the bridge and pinned him against the river bottom. Drowning and not the blow he suffered when struck by the beam caused Radloff's death, it is believed. The beam was 70 feet long.
Fred Serfoss of Waverly was working with Radloff, but. He managed to leap to safety.
The reason for the beam falling was not learned. Dr. L. D. Jay, Bremer county coroner, does not plan to hold an inquest, he said after investigation.Radloff is survived by his mother, a widow.
