Another old soldier has gone to his last rest. Mr Fred Beck of Vivian, died July 21st at 2 o'clock p.m. at his own residence aged 56 years, 8 months and 21 days.
He was born in Germany Nov 1st, 1836, and came to this country when a young man and settled in Iowa. (Garnavillo, Clayton County Iowa) He soon after enlisted in the army and served three full years.
He came to Vivian, Waseca county,(Minnesota) twelve years ago and has resided here ever since. He was sickly for a number of years and last spring he got worse and continued to fail up to the time of his death. Dropsy set in a short time before his end and although he suffered much pain at times, the final close of life was a dropping to sleep without a struggle.
The funeral was held saturday at 1 o'clock p.m. The remains were taken to the Minnesota Lake cemetery.
Deceased leaves a widow and three grown children to mourn his death., besides one brother, two sisters and hosts of other friends.
His life work was well done. May his spirit forever bask in the sunlight of eternal happiness and progression.
Rev Chr Boettcher of Alma City preached a very interesting sermon.
