Elkader's Oldest Resident, 95, Dies
Elkader (Special) — Funeral services for Elkader's oldest resident, Mrs. Lesette Kelpien, 95, will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Zion Lutheran church in Clayton Center.
Mrs. Keipien, a lifetime, resident of Clayton county and a resident of Elkader, the past 33 years, died Monday. She was born Feb. 14, 1860 on a farm near Elkader, the daughter of German immigrants, Mr. and Mrs. William Taake.
Survivors include three sons and two daughters, George, Carl, Elmer, Ella and Mrs. Emil Best, all of Elkader; and two brothers, August and George Taake, both of Elkader. Her husband, Charles, died in 1945.~Olwein Daily Register, Jan 3, 1956

Elkader — Mrs. Charles Kelpien, 95, the oldest resident of Elkader, died at her home Monday after an illness of three months.Born Lesette Taake, Feb. 14, 1860, she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Taake. She lived on a farm near here until she and her husband retired 33 years ago and moved to Elkader. Mr. Kelpien died in 1945.
Survivors include three sons, George, Carl, Elmer, all of Elkader; two daughters, Ella, and Mrs. Emil Best, both of Elkader; and two brothers, August and George Taake, of Elkader.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in the Witt funeral home and 2 p.m. in Zion Lutheran church, Clayton Center. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
