Louie Oscar Erickson

Louie Erickson died Friday, May 1, 1992, in the Good Samaritan Center at Postville.

Funeral services for Louie Erickson, 80, were held Monday, May 4, 1992, in the East Clermont Lutheran Church, rural Postville. Rev. James Hougen officiated the service with burial in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Leon Dibble, Clarence Amundson, Wayne Amundson, Ronald Meyer, Bertie Waters, Kenneth Blockhus, Joe McNeil, Paul Waters, Clarence Kittelson and Quinton Olson.

Louie Oscar Erickson, son of Ben and Amanda (Baker) Erickson, was born in Grand Meadow Township, Clayton County, near Gunder, Iowa. At the age of three months, he and his parents moved to their present farm in Grand Meadow Township, and he has lived there all of his 80 years. He was baptized in the Marion Lutheran Church, confirmed in the East Clermont Lutheran Church and attended the McKinley School. He loved farming and working with the livestock. He traveled extensively in the United States, also northern Europe, Australia, New Zealand, the Soviet Union and made five trips to Norway. He was an active member of the East Clermont Lutheran Church and one of the founders of the Perpetual Fund Board which sustains the church and cemetery. He had served on the church council several times and had been a member of the Farm Bureau, serving on its board of directors, a member of the Postville Lions Club and the Sons of Norway.

Survivors include a brother, Alvin Erickson of Postville; four sisters, Irene Speece of Postville, Evelyn (Mrs. L. W.) Peterson of Overland Park, Kan., Lillian (Mrs. H. E.) Lang of Lincoln, Neb., and Dolores (Mrs. Norman) Koser of Cupertino, Calif.; 12 nieces and nephews, Diane Speece Blalock and Karen Speece Marks; Matthew Erickson and Gayle Erickson Moore; Rick Peterson, Cristy Peterson Roberts, Ron Peterson and Randy Peterson; Cathy Lang Morrissey and John Lang; Kurt Koser and Erik Koser.

He is preceded in death by his parents.
