HARVA OSCAR MILLER
Harva Oscar Miller, son of John Frederick and Annetta (Sawyer) Miller, was born December 18, 1903, near Hardin, Iowa. He died January 31, 1995 at the Good Samaritan Center in Postville. He was 91 years old.
He attended Hardin grade school, Luana High School, graduating from Postville in 1923, only so he could play football. Harva was united in marriage to Verlye (sic) Nichols on June 17, 1925 in Caledonia, Minnesota. They farmed north of Luana. They moved to Monona in 1962, where he did carpentry work for many years. He was a member of the Garden City United Methodist Church.
Harva belonged to many farm organizations, serving as president of the Postville Telephone Company, Luana Creamery Board, and vice-president of the Luana Savings Bank Board.
He is preceded in death by three grandson, Billy and Charles Smith and David Miller; a great granddaughter, Caryn Enyart; two sisters, Winnie Sawyer and Florence Miller and three brothers, Frank, Earl and Ross Miller.
He is survived by his wife, Veryle (sic); a daughter, Jean (Ed) Smith of Monona; a son, Marvin (Darlene) Miller of McGregor; grandsons, Fred (Debbie) Smith, Jeff (Janelle) Smith, Steve (Luanne) Miller, Paul (Jeanne) Miller, Dan (Donna) Miller, Tom (Vicki) Miller and Tim (Sara) Miller; great granddaughters, Barbara (Rodger) Repta, Christine (Tim) Enyart, Susan (Steve) Turner, and Wendy (Leo) Gansen, 36 great grandchildren, one great great grandson; a sister-in-law, Ruth Miller of Cedar Rapids, many nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Friday, February 3, 1995 at Garden City United Methodist Church in Monona, Iowa with Dr. Gary Dobbins officiating. Music was provided by organist Ric Benzing, piano solo by Sam Miller, soloist, Denise Miller, quartet, Janckson (sic) Turner, Nelson Converse, Harlan Hass and Kendall Benzing singing "The Beautiful Garden of Prayer".
Honorary pallbearers were Lloyd Lamborn, James and Keith Bloxham, Dean, Keith and Gus Johnson, Kenneth Brooks and Jack Perkins. Pallbearers were Fred and Jeff Smith, Steve, Paul, Dan, Tom and Tim Miller. Arrangements were made by Schultz's Funeral Home, Monona. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery, Postville, Iowa.
