Funeral services for Rudy Possehl were held Tuesday, April 20, 1993, 11:30 a.m. at Peace United Church of Christ, Elkader, Iowa. Rev. Lance A. Bentley officiated. Burial was in East Side Cemetery, Elkader. Honorary bearers were John Orr, Mervin Larson, Karl Tschirgi, and Adolph Elvers. Casket bearers were Scott Evert, Kent Possehl, Larry Teppen, Steven Possehl, Matthew Possehl, Charles Whalen, Robert Possehl, Kurt Kepploer, and Robert Griffin. Leonard-Witt Funeral Home of Elkader was in charge of arrangements.
Rudy William Possehl, son of William and Mabel (Carpenter) Possehl, was born June 30, 1909 at Lodomillo Township in Clayton County, Iowa. He was raised and educated in the area, attending rural School.
March 1, 1930, he was united in marriage to Rosalyn Frieden. Four sons were born to this union. They lived and farmed in rural Elkader. He was a purebred hog breeder. They moved into town seventeen years ago.
Rudy was active in Peace United Church of Christ. He served on the church council and held the office of president.
He served on the Elgin Creamery Board, was a 4-H leader for many years, served on the local school boards, the Clayton County Farm Bureau Board, Clayton County Extension Service, chairman of Clayton County Board of Adjustment, and a member of the Elkader Lions.
Rudy died Saturday afternoon at home, April 17, 1993, at the age of 83 years, 10 months and 11 days.
He is survived by four sons and their wives: William (Elaine) Possehl of Monona, Iowa, Rollin (Dorothy) Possehl of Arcadia, Wisconsin, Floyd (Janice) of Elkader, Iowa, and Rudy (Donna) Possehl, Jr., of Racine, Wisconsin; eight grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; a brother, Oscar of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and a special friend Lillian Thiese.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosalyn, Dec. 20, 1989; his father and mother; three brothers, Raymond, Alva and Ralph; and a sister Helen.
