Karl Frederick Weller was born in Wurttenberg, Germany, January 10, 1859. He was baptized as an infant in the Christian faith and in early manhood was confirmed in the Lutheran Church where he faithfully remained until death.
At the customary age he served three years in the German army, after which he came to America and settled at McGregor, Iowa. While living at McGregor he married Anna Siegele, his faithful companion "until death do us part." Their forty-eight wedding anniversary was March 29 of this year. Mr. and Mrs. Weller had six children, all of whom are living.
Mr. Weller moved with his family to Americus in 1904. He departed this life March 29, at the age of 78 years, 2 months and 19 days.
He is survived by his wife, Anna, two sons, S.C. and W.F. Weller, four daughters, Mrs. Ella Siegele, of McGregor, Iowa; Mrs. Emelia Gray and Mrs. Amanda McGowan, of Americus; and Mrs. Martha George, Miami, Florida. One brother, Charley Weller, of McGregor, Iowa also survives him. He had fourteen grandchildren and a number of nephews and nieces.
The funeral services were held March 31, 1938 at the Methodist Church. The pastor, A.L. Day, and Doctor O.W. Ebright of Emporia, officiated. Dr. Ebright brought the message from two texts that the departed had chosen, desiring that they be used for the message at his funeral. They are Genesis 23:56, "And he said unto them, hinder me not, seeing the Lord hath prospered my way; send me away that I may go to my master." And II Timothy 4:7, " I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith; Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord the righteous judge, shall give me at that day; and not to me only , but unto all them also that love his appearing."
The pallbearers were Hensen Gray, Soltz Reichardt, Wm. Proehl, Ernst Snyder, Henry Proehl, and Albert Haber. Joe Myser and Mrs. Herb Anderson sand, "Abide With Me," and "Saved by Grace". They were accompanied at the piano by Mrs. H.H. Bell.
Date of death was 28 March 1938. Obit was from an Americus, Kansas newspaper.
