Alta Odegard

Alta Elaine (Seago) Odegard, of Elgin, passed away Sunday, October 12, 2008, at her daughter's home following a long illness. She was 75.

Funeral Services were held Wednesday, October 15, at Marion Lutheran Church, Gunder, with the Rev. Marshall Hahn officiating. Burial was in the Marion Lutheran Cemetery, Gunder. Leonard-Grau Funeral Home of Elgin was in charge of arrangements.

Alta was born March 4, 1933, in Arlington, to John Truman and Thelma Mae (Weston) Seago. Alta was confirmed on October 26, 1958, at the Elgin Lutheran Church. She was united in marriage to Bill Cooley. Two sons, Michael and David, were born to this union. Alta and Bill were later divorced. Alta was then married to Glen Odegard on December 19, 1959. Two children, Glenda and Robert, were born to this union.

Alta worked at Valley Schools as first a dishwasher and then a cook for sixteen years. She decided to retire after Glen passed away, April 1, 1994. Her latest jobs included helping with her grandchildren and cracking and separating eggs for her daughter. Alta held many jobs in her life and she was good at all of them. She was a wonderful cook and baker, and passed her love of that to her daughter. Her greatest accomplished job was that of a mother and grandmother.

She was a member of the Marion Lutheran Church in Gunder, and the Elgin American Legion Women's Auxiliary. Alta was an expert gardener. She was always told her garden was spotless, not a weed to be found within miles of it. Alta loved with all she could and gave everything she had to give. She had several nieces and nephews that were very special to her and she to them.

Alta was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Glen Odegard; one son, David Cooley; sister, Eula Berger, Verna Squires, Sharon Rohrig and nephews, James and Kim Berger.

Survivors include two sons, Michael (Judy) Cooley, Northglenn, Colo., Robert (Val) Odegard, Elgin; one daughter, Glenda (Kelly) Koehn, Elgin; one brother, Hubert (LuVeryl) Seago, Dysart; twelve grandchildren, Jamie Dietzenbach, Chad Cooley, Amy Jones, Colleen Durnan, David (Heather) Cooley, Crystal Cooley, Sam Koehn, Joe Koehn, Kyle Koehn, Becky Odegard, Alex Odegard and John Odegard; eleven great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Margo Cooley; brother-in-law, Ron Rohrig and many nieces, nephews and close friends.
