Grover Cleveland Miller
Funeral services were held for Grover Miller of Monona on Wed., May 3, 1978 at the United Methodist Church with Rev. Raymond Pacholke officiating. Music was provided by a male quartet: Kendall Benzing, John Wachter, David Schlitter, and Harlan Hass, accompanied by Mrs. Justus Kammerer, organist.
Pallbearers were Melvin Beimfohr, Oscar Carlson, Earl Allert, Othmar Dickman, Henry Comnick and Willis Meier. Burial was in the Giard Cemetery.
Grover Cleveland Miller was born Aug. 26, 1884 in Farmersburg Township, the only son of Jacob Miller and Elizabeth Helwig Miller.
He attended Hawkeye School. He joined in the farm activities, taking full responsibility after the death of his father. He was well known for being the breeder of Poland China and Chester White hogs.
Grover was assessor for a number of years for Farmersburg Township. In 1920 he succeeded his father as director of the Farmersburg Savings Bank. He was a member of Prairie Evangelical Church and held various offices there and later in the Pilgrim Evangelical Church in Monona. At the time of his death he was a member of the Garden City United Methodist Church in Monona.
In 1940 Grover and his sister, Norma, retired to Monona where they built a home. In May 1976 they moved to an apartment in Monona Housing, Inc. In September 1977 he was hospitalized in Prairie du Chien, Wis. Later he was moved to Postville Community Memorial Hospital where he passed away on Sunday morning, April 30, 1978.
He is survived by three sisters: Mrs. Oscar (Ruth) Erickson of Okoboji, Iowa; Ella Miller of Mason City, and Norma Miller of Monona.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four sisters: Emma Miller, Mrs. Ben (Clara) Datisman, Mrs. Henry (Nettie) Tieszen, and Mrs. George (Hulda) Hubacher
