Louis E. Miller
Funeral services were held Friday at St. John's Luther Church in Luana for Louis E. Miller who passed away on Tuesday of last week. The Rev. L. W. Reuther was in charge of the rites; burial was in the Lutheran cemetery in Luana.
Louis Elmer Miller, one of nine children, was born July 21, 1900 on a farm near Farmersburg, Iowa to Fred and Mary Mueller. He spent his childhood on farms around Clayton Center.
He was baptized in the Lutheran Church in Clayton Center; confirmed in St. John's Lutheran Church in Farmersburg by the Rev. E. Guetzlaff. On April 27, 1921 he was united in marriage to Viola Backhaus. To this union three sons were born.
The deceased spent almost his entire married life engaged in farming in the Luana community. He has been a long-time member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Luana. In 1949 he and his wife retired from the farm and moved to Luana.
He suffered a severe stroke last Friday and was taken to Postville Hospital. On Tuesday evening, 9:15 p.m., he passed away having attained the age of 60 years, five months and 20 days.
He was preceded in death by an infant son; his father and mother, and brother, Marvin. He is survived by his wife; two sons, Merle and Louis, Jr., both of Luana; five grandchildren; five sisters, Mrs. William Lubbers of Postville, Mrs. Harvey Klasen of Farmersburg, Mrs. George Pixler of Dubuque, Mrs. Arlo Johanningmeier of McGregor, and Mrs. Alice Kiple of McGregor; two brothers, Fritz Miller of Farmersburg, and Carl Miller of McGregor; and other relatives and friends.
