Sherry Lynn Henning
Sherry Lynn Henning, of Elkader, passed away on Saturday, August, 9, 2008, at Central Community Hospital in Elkader following a brief illness. She was 45.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 15, 2008, at the Peace United Church of Christ in Elkader with Pastor Andrea Mericle officiating. Burial will be at the Eastside Cemetery in Elkader. Casket bearers are all of the Elkader Freedom Bank employees. Leonard Funeral Home, Elkader, was in charge of arrangements.
Sherry was born October 9, 1962, in McGregor, to Gary and Connie (Mueker) Lenth. She was baptized December 29, 1962, at St. John Lutheran Church in Luana and confirmed on April 30, 1978, at Norway Lutheran Church, St. Olaf. Sherry graduated from Central Community High School in 1981.
Sherry married the one and only love of her life, Randy Henning, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, on June 28, 1980. She welcomed her first child, Rusty Allen, on December 31, 1980, and a daughter, Brandi Lee, on July 25, 1982.
In 1992, Sherry joined Freedom Bank in Elkader, where she worked as a bank teller and later as the Freedom Club Director for the Elkader branch. Sherry enjoyed traveling with the Freedom Club members to Italy, Switzerland, New England States, Alaska and many day and week trips to plays and on mystery trips. You never knew which direction the club members would go when she planned a mystery trip!
Sherry loved spending time with her family, especially her granddaughter, Brianna, her nieces McKenzie, Laren, Gabrielle, and nephew Brody. Sherry also had the opportunity to travel with her husband Randy, to Greece in March 2008, as well as to Niagara Falls and Sedonna Valley in previous years. Sherry's other interests included quilting, cross stitching, planting flowers and playing Sequence and Euchre with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents; aunts, uncles and father-in-law, Donald Henning.
Sherry is survived by her husband Randy; two children, Rusty Henning of Cedar Rapids and Brandi Henning of Elkader; one granddaughter, Brianna Henning of Cedar Rapids; her parents, Gary and Connie Lenth of St. Olaf; a brother Todd (Lisa) Lenth of Elkader; a sister, Shelly (Brian) Rawson of Atkins; mother-in-law, Ivanelle Henning of Elkader; two brothers-in-law, Ron (Kathy) Henning of Rowley and Richard Henning of Marengo and a sister-in-law, Kathy Ann North of Texas.
Sherry will be missed greatly; however, she has left an imprint on many people's lives and her memory will live on in our hearts.
