Alice Marie Kalke
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on August 5, 2004, at Zion Lutheran Church, Clayton Center, Iowa with interment at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Clayton Center, for Alice Marie Kalke, 75, of Clayton Center, who died Tuesday, August 3, 2004, at Central Community Hospital in Elkader, following a short illness. Leonard Funeral Home, Elkader, was in charge of arrangements.
She was born on March 8, 1929, at Plymouth, Indiana, to Raymond and Elsie Olive Schrom Davis. At the age of ten, Alice and her family moved to Central City, IA, where she graduated from high school.
She was united in marriage to Edwin Kalke on June 7, 1950 at Zion Lutheran Church, Clayton Center. Three children were born to this union, daughters Gloria and Linda Lou and a son Lorraine.
They farmed and made their home south of Clayton Center. In 1977, Edwin and Alice built a new home in Clayton Center where they continued to make their home. Edwin died on October 12, 1987. Alice continued living in Clayton Center until May of this year. Due to ill health, she moved in with Paul and Gloria Olson. Alice was a long time active member of Zion Lutheran Church, she enjoyed cooking, making afghans, watching the Chicago Cubs and Iowa/Indiana basketball. She also enjoyed helping her son-in-law at his appliance store in Elkader.
Survivors include her daughter, Gloria (Paul) Olson,of Elkader, her son, Lorraine (Linda) Kalke, of Decorah; two grandchildren, Lisa Kalke and Patricia Kalke and fiancé, Steve Wilkes, all of Decorah; brothers and sisters, Mary Garrett, of Monticello; Martha (John) Knupp, and Rosemond (Ronald) Campbell, all of Marion; Raymond (Beverly) Davis, of Stanwood; Jean (Phillip) Goodall, Paul (Bette) Davis and Charles (Edna) Davis, all of Cedar Rapids and nieces, nephews and friends.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, her husband on October 12, 1987, and a daughter, Gloria’s twin sister, Linda Lou.
