Isabel Moses
Isabel Margaret Ferguson Moses, 82, of Monona died Sunday, May 4, 2008, at Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 7 at 11 a.m. at Living Faith United Methodist Parish, Monona. The Rev. Dennis Gilbert will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Monona City Cemetery, Monona. Following the burial, everyone is invited back to the church for dinner and fellowship.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 6 from 4-7 p.m. at the Leonard Funeral Home, Monona, and from 10 a.m. until service time at the church.
Isabel was born November 10, 1925 in McGregor to Robert and Fanny (Demo) Ferguson. She graduated from Marquette High School in 1943. Isabel also graduated from Elkader Junior College in 1945, where she obtained her teachers certificate. She taught Elementary Education for a number of years in the area.
Isabel was united in marriage to William A. Moses April 17, 1946 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Five children were born to this union. Isabel and William purchased their first farm in 1948 where they raised their children. In 1976, Isabel and William moved off the farm. Isabel then pursued and earned her Home Health Aid Certificate and worked as a Home Health Aid until 1990. In 1994, she received the Outstanding Volunteer Service Award for Project Head Start. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, playing bingo and weaving. Isabel was a loving wife and a wonderful mother to five children, 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years, William; four children, Joanne Moses Lewis of Chesapeake, VA, Robert (Sheryl) Moses of Monona, Thomas (Karen) Moses of Monona, and Byron (Brenda) Moses of Monona; a daughter-in-law, Amy Moses of Luana; 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Isabel was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Bruce Moses; two sisters, Edith Miller and Ruth Moreland; one brother, Harley Ferguson; and one granddaughter, Jessie Moses.
