JOSEPH JOHNSON

HOLD FUNERAL SERVICE FOR ACCIDENT VICTIM

Coroner's Jury Exonerates Gunder Youths

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon for Joseph Johnson, 27, who was found dead on the Postville-Gunder road last Wednesday morning, at the Gunder Lutheran church with the Rev. E. E. Ramsey officiating. The deceased was survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Johnson of near Gunder, and five sisters and one brother.

A coroner's jury, composed of Ed McNeil, Marion Lind and Glenn Meyer, pronounced death as accidental after hearing the testimony of witnesses. It was brought out at the coroner's hearing that three Gunder youths returning home early Wednesday morning drove over an object lying in the roadway they presumed to be an endgate as they came upon it over a rise in the road. It late proved to be Johnson, apparently asleep in the roadway.

The youths re-enacted the accident and were absolved from all blame.

Johnson had been in the employ of Rolan Heins for several years and it was near the Heins farm the accident occurred.
