Virgil M. Hefner
Virgil M. Hefner, 77, of rural McGregor died Sunday February 24, 2008 at Memorial Hospital in Prairie du Chien, WI following a short illness. Funeral services were held Saturday March 1 at St. Mary Catholic Church in McGregor with burial in St. Pius Cemetery at Cherry Mound with military honors.
He is survived by his wife Kathleen; five children, Julie (Bruce) Schultz of McGregor, Michael (Lori) Hefner of German Valley, IL, Bill (Julie) Hefner of Minneapolis, MN, Ron (Vicky) Hefner of McGregor, and Jolene (Terry) Christeleit of Volga; nine grandchildren, Shawn (Tara) Schultz, Jeremy Schultz, Cassidy Hefner, Caity Hefner, Courtney Hefner, Chad Hefner, Ty Hefner, William Christeleit, and Rylan Hefner; and one great-grandchild, Noah Schultz. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.
Virgil was born July 8, 1930 at Waukon to Elmer Gerald and Florence (McNally) Hefner. He attended school in Waukon and served in the Army. He married Kathleen McCormick October 17, 1953 at St. Pius Church, Cherry Mound. Virgil was a lifelong farmer and cattle raiser.
He was a member of the American Legion, V.F.W., American Angus Association, the Farm Bureau, and St. Mary's Church. He was very proud of and loved his family, church, country, the land he tilled and the cattle he raised.
