MARTIN JOHNSON

Martin Johnson, 76, of Gunder, died May 11 at the Community Memorial Hospital in Postville.

Martin Johnson, the son of Carl and Martha (Sampson) Johnson, was born June 20, 1902 on a farm in Marion Township, Clayton County. He received his education in the rural township schools, and was baptized and confirmed in the Marion Lutheran Church where he was a life-long member. Prior to retiring in Gunder he had farmed the family farm.

He is survived by five sister: Mrs. Mary Larson of Elkader, Mrs. Melvin (Selma) Peterson and Mrs. Herbert (Minerva) Blockus, both of Marion; Mrs. Clara Larson of Gunder; and Mrs. Hilda Guler of Dubuque; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Joseph.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 14 at 1:30 p.m. at the Marion Lutheran Church in Gunder. The Rev. Keith Klemm officiated.

Burial was in the church cemetery. Schutte Funeral Service of Postville, was in charge of the arrangements.
