Glenn Ewald Palas
Glenn Ewald Palas, 87, Luana, Iowa, died Monday, January 14, 2008, at his home following a long illness. Glenn was born on October 11, 1920, in Monona Township, Clayton County, Iowa, to J. Henry and Emma Margaret (Buckman) Palas. Glenn was baptized on November 21, 1920, and confirmed on June 23, 1935, both at St. John Lutheran Church, Luana, by Rev. H.P. Kumpf. He graduated from Luana High School in 1938.
Glenn served his country faithfully during WW II in the United States Army Air Force. He held the rank of Sergeant and was honorably discharged on November 7, 1945. He was united in marriage to LaNida Nevermann on September 26, 1945, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona, by the Rev. R. C. Schlueter. They were the proud parents of six children. Glenn farmed for many years and also worked for Chase Manufacturing. Glenn enjoyed cooking, reading, woodworking, gardening, his faith and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, LaNida, Luana; four children, Sandra (Charles) Frein, Pevely, MO, Dave (Rosalind) Palas, Postville, Patty (Rod) Pritchard, Clermont, Dawn (Lyle J.) Pritchard, Des Moines; one daughter-in-law, Marcia Palas, Dickeyville, WI; grandchildren, Randy (Tina) Palas, Nicole (Steve) Hoover, Tammy Loomis, Kevin (Sara) Palas, Joel (Jennifer) Pritchard, Daisha Osborn, Esley (Dustin) Henkes, Amber (Jeffrey) Hayes, Jayna (Jason) Johnson; great-grandchildren, Danielle and Zach Palas, Emilio Cerda, Tressa Loomis, Dalton and Haley Palas, Lauryn and Laryssa Pritchard, Keegan and Kaden Osborn and Owen and Ashlyn Henkes.
Glenn was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Donald Palas, in 2005, Stanley Palas, in 1979; seven brothers, Arthur, Herbert, Lloyd, Floyd, LeRoy, Henry, LaVerne and three sisters, Helen Mohs, Ella Meyer, Margaret Engelhardt.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, January 17, 2008, at 11:00 am at St. John Lutheran Church, Luana. The Rev. Christopher Staley will officiate.
Burial will follow in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Luana, with military rites.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 16, 2008, from 4-8 p.m. at the Leonard Funeral Home, Monona, and from 10:00 am until service time at the church on Thursday.
