Funeral services were held Saturday from the Tuecke Funeral Chapel for Howard R. Groth, 59, who died last Tuesday afternoon at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital following a long illness. Mr. Groth had been suddenly stricken at his home on the island north of Guttenberg and was taken to the hospital several hours before his death.The funeral services were conducted by Rev. M. Stanley Ballard, pastor of the Guttenberg Methodist Church, and burial was in the Guttenberg City Cemetery. Pallbearers were members of the Colesburg Masonic Lodge, which was in charge of Masonic services at the graveside.
Mr. Groth was born June 13, 1908, at Edgewood, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Groth. On June 11, 1932 he married Helen Schroeder in Guttenberg. The couple were the parents of four daughters.
For 35 years Mr. Groth had operated the Groth Chevrolet Company at Colesburg, and about a year ago closed that business and moved to Guttenberg to make his home.
Surviving Mr. Groth in addition to Mrs. Groth are their four daughters, Mrs. Raymond Hudson of North Stonington, Connecticut; Mrs. Richard Steinfadt of Colesburg; Mrs. Clovis Hodges of Houston, Texas; and Mrs. Dick Mangler of Clinton. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Alfred Burghardt of Sumner, and a brother, Alva Groth of New Orleans, Louisiana.
