Portwine Rites Held at Bethel -
Elkport - Mrs. Luella Blanche Hook Portwine died Monday, April 1, 1946 at 2:00 p.m. The services were held at Bethel church in charge of Rev. S. E. Birkner of St. John's Evangelical and Reformed church at Garber, and burial was in the Bethel cemetery.Music for the service was provide by the Garber church choir.
Pallbearers for the services were Art Jennings, John Amling, Lloyd Smith, Ernest Groth and Jos. Ludovissy.
Mrs. Portwine was born at Delhi, Iowa October 15, 1897, and was married to Fred Portwine May 2, 1913 at Edgewood. They were the parents of three children.
The three children who survive in addition to Mr. Portwine, are Lloyd, who was in the Philippines a number of years and is now at home, Mrs. Buela Hammond of Elkport, and Anita at home. Three grandchildren also survive. They are Dorothy May, Gerald and Roger Hammond.
Surviving also are three sisters, Mrs. Elsie Welch of Greeley, Mrs. Inez D. H. Calgmer of Dubuque, and Mrs. Grace Lester of Independence and two brothers, Earl Hook of Greeley, and Firman Hook of Cedar Rapids.
