Amelia Catherine Knee daughter of David and Catherine Knee was born Nov. 14, 1853 at Martinsburg, Penn, and fell asleep Feb. 16, 1926 at the age of 72 years, 3 months and 2 days.
At the age of two years her parents moved to Colesburg where she lived until her marriage to Ransford Burdette Palmer on Feb. 17, 1875 and resided on the farm until the death of Mr. Palmer in 1924. To this union were born thirteen children, three of whom having preceded her in death: Dale at the age of 21, and the other two in infancy. Her beloved husband and companion departed this life two years ago on the 4th of February. The remaining children are: Mrs. Kate Parks of Waterloo; Mrs. Mattie Hansel of New Hampton; Mrs. Clara Hansel of Garber; Mrs. Rose Bell, and Mrs. Jennie Ross of Earlville, Mrs. Grace Hansel of Ekport, David and Glen Palmer of Garber, Albert Palmer of Elkader, and Henry Palmer of Edgewood, Ia.
While yet a young girl she gave her heart to the Lord and joined the M. E. Church of which she was an active and consistent member. After her marriage she came with her husband into the United Brethern Church at Fairview, and for many years was the teacher of the primary class. Her life is best known to those who knew and loved her best. She lived but to serve, and while her health was poorly for a long time she thought only of sparing others, and that she might not burden them.
Besides the children there are twenty seven grand children; one sister Mrs. Ella Davis, and one brother, Mr. Jas. Knee both of Colesburg, Ia. and a large number of relatives and friends. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Hollingshead of the Bethel Church, and interment at the Bethel cemetery.
