Emmett Trappe

Emmett Everett Trappe, 84, of Monona died Tuesday, September 11, 2007 at Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital in Prairie du Chien, WI following a brief illness. Funeral services were held Saturday, September 15 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Monona, with Rev. Allen Bidne officiating. Burial followed in the Monona City Cemetery, Monona.

Emmett was born April 21, 1923 in Giard Township in Clayton County to Victor F. and Ella (Kurth) Trappe. He attended country school and graduated from Monona High School in 1941.

Emmett was united in marriage to Dorothy Ihde at the Methodist Church in Monona April 26, 1944. Five boys were born to this union. Dorothy passed away September 29, 1988. Emmett farmed for many years until his retirement in 1974. He enjoyed dancing, playing cards and going out to eat, especially at "White Springs". Emmett loved spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include four sons, David (Delpha) Trappe of Monona, James (Julie) Trappe of Luana, Mark (Kona) Trappe of Harpers Ferry and Daniel Trappe of Cedar Rapids; three brothers, Elmer (Mary) Trappe of Manly, Herb (Donna) Trappe of Monona and Robert (Sheron) Trappe of Monona; special friend, Vanita Shaw of Postville; thirteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Kathryn Trappe Severson of Cedar Rapids.

Emmett was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one son, Eugene Trappe; one great-granddaughter, Delandra Howe; and three brothers, Gaylord, Willard and Harold Trappe.

Casketbearers were Lorin Dettmann, Duane Lamker, Bob Moses, L'Dean Henkes, Gary Philpott and Jim Middendorf. Honorary pallbearers were Harlan Hass, Lyle and Judy Pritchard, Dwayne and Arah Carlson, and Gilbert and Jean Kurth.
