Cecil Purman Loses Life in Gun Accident - Well Known Native of Mallory Township killed - Sept, 4, 1947

Garber - Cecil Gale Purman, a former resident of this community died last Thursday after he had accidently shot himself with a shotgun while going after his cows in the woods on his farm. When Purman failed to return from the woods, his wife went to look for him and found his body with shotgun wounds in the abdomen. After the shot, Purman apparently had made his way some distance before he collapsed. The death was called accidental by the county coroner who was called in the case.

Funeral services for Mr. Purman were held from St. John's Evangelical and Reformed church in Garber in charge of Rev. S. E. Birkner, pastor, on September 8, 1947. Music was provided by Bernice and Bernita Thein with Mrs. Harold Kriebs at the piano. Burial was in the Hansel cemetery with the following as pallbearers; Will Straus, Everett White, Donald Billmeyer, Dale Jones and Arthur Hansel.

Cecil Gale Purman, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Purman was born December 9, 1921 in Mallory township. He attended the rural schools, and later was graduated from Elkport high school. On April 20, 1944 he married Wanda Mae Stewart at Dubuque. They are the parents of two children, Janet Elaine, and Larry LaVern Purman. The couple had lived on a farm in Elk township since their marriage.

In addition to Mrs. Purman and his two children, he is survived by his father, a brother Harry, an Uncle, seven aunts and a number of other relatives. His mother and one brother preceded him in death.
