Funeral services for Silas J. Beddow, 81 who died Thursday evening, November 27 at his present residence in Winona, Minesota were held in the Breitlow funeral home in that city Monday afternoon, December 1.
Burial at Colesburg - Dr. H. D. Henry of the Central Methodist church, Winona officiated. Burial and committment services were at the Brown cemetery near Colesburg the following afternoon with Rev. Floyd Maynard of the First Methodist church, Colesburg, holding the service.Mr. Beddow was born October 9, 1866 near Colesburg, the son of Jacob Beddow and Elizabeth Baxter Beddow, and spent his early years there. After attending school at Epworth, he spent the following 18 years teaching school at various towns in northeastern Iowa.
He then worked in general merchandising business for ten years at Waukon, moving to Armour, South Dakota to take up work in land abstracting. In 1937 he retired due to ill health and had resided at Winona the past two years. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. and the Methodist church.
One son Survives - On April 6, 1896 he was married to Margaret Elizabeth Brown of Colesburg. She died on April 6, 1941.
Mr. Beddow is survived by one son, Frank R. Beddow of Winona, Minnesota, one grandson Frank R. Beddow Jr. of Dubuque, and two great grandchildren.Of three brothers, John of Manchester, Joseph of Ft. Dodge and Delly of Elkport, and two half sisters, Mrs. Ruth Hansel and Mrs. Mary Margaret Galer of Oelwein, only Joseph and Mrs. Galer survive.
