Eva Marie Hansel ~ was born June 7, 1904 near Garber, Iowa to Fred and Amelia (Kottke) Simons. She was raised and educated in the area attending rural school, and the Colesburg High School. She was united in marriage to Arthur Hansel in February of 1931. One son was born to this union. Together they farmed all their lives near Garber. Arthur died on November 25, 1975. Eva then moved to Colesburg where she has resided ever since.
After an extended illness, Eva passed away on Thursday morning, June 20, 1991 at Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital. She was eighty-seven years of age. Eva was a member of the Colesburg United Methodist Church and will be remembered as one who enjoyed visiting, quilting, and crocheting.
Survivors include her son, Clarence and his wife Pauline of Garber, Iowa; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Eva was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Arthur; two brothers, and two sisters.
Services were held on Saturday morning, June 22, 1991 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Colesburg, with Rev. Rhonda Schultz officiating. Organist was Edith Merten, and Soloist was Art Holthaus. Burial was in the Brown Cemetery, rural Colesburg. Caskets bearers were Mike Ryan, Doug Hansel, Herbert Simons, Mike Hansel, Lester Simons, and Duane Borrett. The Leonard - Vernon Funeral Home, Edgewood was in charge of arrangements.
