Rites Held For Mrs. Emma Thoma
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church for Mrs. Emma Thoma, 80, who passed away at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Bertelson on December 8.
The rites were in charge of Rev. Charles E. Witt, pastor of St. Paul's. Paul Schutte sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Beyond The Sunset", accompanied by Mrs. Paul Schutte.
Emma Caroline Dorothy Thoma, daughter of Carl Senholz and his wife, Barbara, was born on September 24, 1873 in Garnavillo, Iowa. She was baptized on December 28, 1873 in Garnavillo.
She was confirmed in St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Postville by Rev. John Gass on March 25, 1888. She was married on November 22, 1900 to William Thoma. To this union was born two children, Harlan and Dolores.
Mrs. Thoma was preceded in death by her husband, two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Garms and Mrs. Elizabeth Meyer, and two brothers, George and Fred Senholz.
She is survived by her son Harlan of Des Moines, and her daughter Dolores Scholtes of Sioux City; one sister, Mrs. Anna Salzgeber; one brother, Charles Senholz; and six grandchildren.
Mrs. Thoma was active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church for more then 65 years, and a member of the Ladies' Aid and Missionary Societies of the Church. She was also a member of the Eastern Star.
