Willie H. Thorsgaard
Funeral services were held for Willie H. Thorsgaard, 75, Tuesday, April 14, 1992, at Norway Lutheran Church, rural St. Olaf. Rev. William Palmquist officiated the service with burial in Norway Lutheran Cemetery, rural St. Olaf. Honorary pallbearers were Maurice Vigen and Gilbert Montour. Pallbearers were Lyle Wagner, Otis Vigen, Alvin Johnson, Robert Zach, Robert Hilgerson and Darrell Kifer.
Willie Thorsgaard was born November 6, 1916, at Minot, N. D., the son of Thore and Isabel (Bergan) Thorsgaard. As a youngster he moved to this area where he attended rural Clayton County schools.
He entered the U. S. Army February 14, 1942, serving during World War II, and was honorably discharged September 24, 1945. On November 5, 1947, he was united in marriage to Mabel Butikofer at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Two children were born to this union. He worked as a mechanic for the St. Olaf Cooperative for a time before moving near Volga, where he farmed for a number of years. At this time he moved into St. Olaf where he has worked as a carpenter, and for a few years worked at the trout hatchery.
Willie Thorsgaard died April 11, 1992, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City.
Survivors include his wife Mabel; two daughters, Marlene (Mrs. Dennis) Eberhardt of Elkader and Linda (Mrs. Steve) Meister of Victoria, Texas; three grandchildren, Stacey and Jennifer Eberhardt, and Gregory Meister; and a sister, Gunda (Mrs. Gerald) Dayton of Cheyenne, Wyo.
He was preceded in death by a brother Elmer and by his parents.
