The Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Garnavillo, Iowa, was in charge of funeral arrangements.
Funeral service were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 05, 2007 at Gospel Hall, Garnavillo, Iowa, with interment in the Garnavillo Community Cemetery.

Gerold Edward Brandt, age 91, of Marion, IA, formerly of Garnavillo, died Thursday, March 1, 2007, at Linn Manor Care Center in Marion after a short illness. He and his twin brother, Harold, were born on October 9, 1915, on the family farm near Garnavillo, the sons of Elmer and Laura Kregel Brandt.

He accepted Christ as his Savior on July 7, 1938, and was part of Garnavillo and Marion assemblies until his death. Gerold graduated with honors from Iowa State College at Ames, Iowa in Veterinary Medicine in June of 1940. One week later on June 17, 1940 he married Helen Heath in Messina, Iowa. To the union were born five children: David, Janice, twins Jean and Joan, and Thomas.

Together, Gerold and Helen operated a veterinary practice in Garnavillo for 28 year from 1940-1968. In 1968 Gerold took a federal job with the United States Department of Agriculture until his retirement in 1984. They made their home in Garnavillo until 1996 when they moved to an apartment in Marion, Iowa and then to Linn Manor Care Center in Marion in 2000.

Gerold is survived by two sons, David (Sandy) Brandt of Mercer Island, Washington and Tom (Rhema) Brandt of Glendale, Arizona and twin daughters, Jean (Paul) Vizzini of Glendale, Arizona and Joan (Bruce) Finn of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin and son-in-law James Sluiter of Marion, Iowa; eleven grandchildren, Todd, Cameron, and Michael Brandt, Heidi McCandless, Shad Sluiter, Jill Frazer, Jina and Jodi Finn, Jonathan and David Vizzini, and Jennifer Aubry; and thirteen great-grandchildren, Quinn, Austin, Anna and Carolyn Brandt, Brittany and Ian McCandless, Cameron and Christy Sluiter, Bradlee and Amber Frazier, Zachary and Ryan Aubry, and Allison Vizzini.

He was preceded in death by his parents, twin brother Harold, his wife Helen in 2002 and his daughter Janice Sluiter in 2005.
