Mathilda "Tillie" Lubbers
Funeral services were held for Mrs. Mathilda Lubbers on Thurs., June 7, 1973 at Schultz Funeral Home in Monona at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor David M. Heck officiating.
Pallbearers were LeRoy Schmidt, Duane Lubbers, Harold Kiple, Gilman Johnson, Quentin Torkelson & Fritzie Mueller. She was laid to rest at the Farmersburg & Wagner Cemetery.
Mathilda Lubbers, the daughter of Herman & Minnia, nee Mueller, Klinkenberg, was born in Wagner Township on Dec. 12, 1897. She was baptized in the Zion Lutheran Church of Clayton Center by the Pastor F. W. Seifert on Dec. 19, 1897. Mathilda Lubbers was also confirmed in the Zion Lutheran Church.
She attended the St. Olaf Grade School.
On Nov. 17, 1920 she was united in marriage to Henry Lubbers and in 1970 they celebrated their 50 years together by their Golden Wedding Anniversary.
Mathilda & Henry resided on a farm in Wagner Township until 1951 when they moved to the town of Farmersburg, where Mrs. Lubbers lived until May 1974 when she suffered a stroke and was hospitalized.
Mrs. Lubbers, known as Tillie to friends, then lived in the Good Samaritan Home at Postville. Later she moved to the rest home in Elkader, where she died June 5, 1973.
Tillie Lubbers leaves to mourn: her husband, Henry of Farmersburg; her sister, Mrs. Lucy Schmidt; her brother-in-law, Arthur Schmidt, who lives at the Lutheran Home in Strawberry Point; her niece, Mrs. Gilman Johnson, St. Olaf; her nephew, LeRoy Schmidt, Waukon; and many other friends & relatives.
