Rites Held For Carl Baltz
Carl Christian William Baltz, second oldest child of Fred and Wilhelmine (Zachow) Baltz was born in Rattag, Germany, September 21, 1880. In infancy he was baptized in the town of his birth.
At the age of two years he came with his parents to America and settled on a farm near Postville where he spent the years of his youth. He was confirmed in St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Postville. In his early years he left home and was employed in construction work around Postville and Clermont. The past 40 years he lived first in Missouri and then in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
The deceased had been in failing health during the past few years. On Sunday morning, May 15, he passed away in Hot Springs, having attained the age of 79 years, seven months and 24 days.
His parents, one sister Minnie and three brothers, August, William and Fred preceded him in death. He is survived by four sisters: Mrs. Anna Gentz of Luana, Mrs. Bertha Buhlman of Waterloo, Mrs. Louise Claus of Waterloo, Mrs. Lena Johnson; and one brother, Ernest Baltz of Orange, California.
Funeral services were held Thursday of last week in the Schutte Funeral Home with the Rev. L. W. Reuther, pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church of Luana, officiating. Burial was in the Postville cemetery.
