Robert W. "Bill" Hauschild,44, of rural Garber, drowned Wednesday in the Mississippi River north of Clayton. Services: 11 a.m. Monday, St. John's Congregational Church, Garber. Burial: Giard Cemetery, rural McGregor. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Sunday at Leonard-Witt Funeral Home, Elkader, and after 10 a.m. Monday at the church.
Survivors include his wife, the former Linda Krugger; a son, Chad, and a daughter, Melisa, both at home; his parents, Fred and Louise Hauschild of Guttenberg; and two brothers, Russell of Edgewood and John of Cedar Rapids.
Born Jan. 8, 1949, in Peoria, Ill., he moved to Iowa at age 2 and had lived in Clayton County for the past 36 years. He graduated from Elkader High School in 1967 and served in the Army during the Vietnam Conflict. He was a dairy farmer in Clayton County for many years. He served as president of Northeast Iowa Vietnam Veterans Association for three years and was a member of VFW. He also was past president of Clayton County Holstein Association, serving as secretary-treasurer this past year; and past vice president of Clayton County DHIA. In 1981, he was named Outstanding Young Dairyman of Clayton County and, in 1985, was chosen as Clayton County Distinguished Dairyman. At the time of his death, he was director of the Allamakee-Clayton Electric Coop Association board.
