Funeral services for Glen Clarence Walter, 65, of Farmersburg were held Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 23, at 1:30 o'clock at St. John Lutheran church in Farmersburg with Rev. R. H. Steege officiating.
Burial was in the Farmersburg and Wagner cemetery.
Mr. Walter was taken to a Prairie du Chien hospital early Monday morning, Oct. 7. Last week for several days it seemed as if he was on the road to recovery. Toward the end of the week, however, his condition took a turn for the worse and he died Sunday morning, Oct. 20, at about 11 o'clock.
He was born a son of William and Sophie, nee Buckman, Walter in Wagner township, Oct. 24, 1902. He was baptized in Monona, July 14, 1903. He received his education in the Wagner township schools. He attended religious school at St. John Lutheran church in Farmersburg and was confirmed by Rev. Fred G. Braun, April 16, 1916.
He was married to Emma Huckstadt, Feb. 15, 1926, at St. John Lutheran parsonage in Farmersburg by Rev. M. Peper. For 12 years they farmed on the George Walter farm, after which they moved to the present Glen Walter farm. They continued to live there until 1959 when they moved to their home in Farmersburg.
He was an active member of St. John Lutheran church. He served on the church council for several terms. He also served on other committees at various times. He was a member of the Brotherhood until it disbanded. He was always ready to do his part in any project of church or community.
Preceding him in death were his parents.
Surviving are his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Dwane (Joan) Hoth of Elkader; a son, James of Luana; two sisters, Mrs. John (Louise) Rugland of Elkader and Mrs. Ray (Ethel) Leete of Volga; one brother, Karl of Decorah and three grandchildren.
Music at the services was provided by a quartet composed of Mrs. John Bissell, Mrs. William Readon, Jr., Mrs. Reuben Mueller, and Mrs. Orval Mueller, Mrs. R. H. Steege was the organist.
Pallbearers were: Fritzie Mueller, Orville Tielbar, Arthur Burrack, Gordon Hanson, Otto Fascher, John Bossard, Harold Kiple and William Readon, Sr.
