Elta Henrietta Eberhardt
Funeral services were held for Elta Henrietta Eberhardt, 96, Friday, February 24, 1989, at Peace United Churh of Christ, Elkader. Rev. Lance Bentley officiated the service with burial in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Clayton Centre. Pallbearers were Milt Kramer, Clyde Kramer, Robert Kramer, Ronald Reimer. Dr. Ken Reimer, Doug Reimer, Mike Reimer, Jerry Eberhardt, Dennis Eberhardt, Louis Eberhardt and John Eberhardt.
Elta Henrietta, daughter of Fritz and Anna (Mahnke) Kalke, was born August 6, 1892, in Read Township of Clayton County. She grew up and was educated in the area attending rural Clayton County schools. September 14, 1915, she was united in marriage to Louis Eberhardt. Six children were born to this union.
After their marriage they farmed near Garrnavillo. She was active in Zion Lutheran Church, Clayton Centre, and served as a Sunday school teacher. In 1942, they moved to a farm near Elkader where she resided until entering the Elkader Care Center in 1979. Her husband died April 7, 1972. Elta Eberhardt was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and Mary's Circle of Peace United Church of Christ. She died Tuesday night February 21, 1989 at Central Community Hospital in Elkader.
Survivors include two sons, Lu Vern of Elkader and Floyd of Garnavillo, two daughters, Mrs. Haldon (Marie) Reimer of Garnavillo, and Mrs. Milton (Anna Mae) Kramer of Elkader, 25 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, five step-great-great-grandchildren, two great-great-great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Hulda Baade of Elkader, and Edna Henning of Farmersburg.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, LeRoy, a daughter Florence Fette, two grandchildren, Elaine Siebrecht and Loren Reimer, a great-granddaughter, Sandra Wiethorn, five brothers, Harley, Henry, Hugo, Alvin and Milo, five sisters, Frieda Schutte, Nelda Schuety, Rena Kamin, and two in infancy, and her parents.
