August John Lundt, son of Henry Lundt and Mina Lundt,nee Schultz, was born in Volga township, Clayton Co., Iowa, June 19, 1875.
January 17, 1900, he wwas united in marriage to Miss Minnie Lindenberg. Mr. Lundt was a staunch member of the Ev. Lutheran Immanuels church of Elkport and has served at various times as a member on the church council. He was ever ready to help and aided where he could. He lived all his life in Clayton county, where he not only was a friend to all, but a neighbor to be proud of. He was a devout Christian throughout his life time.
Last August Mr. Lundt became ill, and from that time on his condition became worse. The best of medical aid was sought, taking him to the hospital in Rochester, Minnesota. Returning he was under the care of skilled men and a nurse as he at times began to show signs of recovery he was taken to the home of his daughter, Mrs. Walter Turner in Elkader, where he died April 15, 1932. At the time of his passing Mr. Lundt was engaged in farming.
He leaves to mour his untimely death, his widow, one son, Walter Lundt, St. Olaf; three daughters, Mrs. Agnes Zittergruen, Elkport; Mrs. Eunice Turner, Elkader; Mrs. Anita Heyde, Garber; six sisters, Mrs. Walke, Guttenberg; Mrs. Voss, Garber; Mrs. Mike Costigan, St. Paul; Mrs. Joe Voss, Seattle,Wash; Mrs. Henry Benschneider, Elkader; Mrs. Wm. Steen, Elkport; also five grandchildren. He reached the age of 56 years, nine months, and 26 days.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 18,1932, at 2:00 p.m. in the home of the deceased and at 2:30 in the Ev. Luth.church, Elkport. Interment was in the Mt. Harmony cemetery. The Rev. F.E. Damm was in charge.
