Henry Henkes

Henry Henkes, the son of John Henkes and Martha Henkes (nee Deitz) was born in Wagner township, Clayton county, Iowa, and departed this life April 14, 1932, at the age of 76 years, two months, and nine days. Death occurred after an illness of nearly three years, during which time he sought medical aid at Muscatine, Iowa City, Cresco and with home doctors, but to no avil. His last illness was of 11 weeks duration. Confined to his bed continually, he was faithfully cared for to the end by his daughter, Mrs. John Krambeer, at whose home he passed away.

Mr. Henkes was baptized in the Lutheran faith May 2, 1856. He was united in marriage to Fannie E. Moon May 18, 1881, who with three daughter, has preceded him in death. He is survived by five children, Monroe Henkes, Clara (Mrs. John Krambeer),Cora (Mrs. Fred Kurth),Lottie (Mrs Joe Russell),of this vicinity, and Howard Henkes of Guttenberg, and six brothers and sisters, Charles Henkes, of Canora, Canada, Mrs. S.G. Baughman of Los Angeles, California,Mrs. Helen Koth and Mrs. Katherine Koth of Monona, Mrs. Len Sebastian and Mell Henkes of Cresco. He is also survived by 25 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, besides many other relatives and friends.

Mr. Henkes lived in this vicinity all of his life and was well known and highly respected by all who knew him. During his last illness he was a patient sufferer and was ever concerned in the welfare of his children. He has indeed earned the rest which has come to him.

The pall-bearers were six grandsons, Lester, Kenneth and Myron Krambeer, Eldon Kurth, Alton Henkes and Lloyd Russell. The flower girls were six granddaughters, Lucille, Lorene and Irma Krambeer, Marietta and Helen Henkes, and Irene Kurth.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, April 17th, at the John Krambeer home at one o'clock and at the Gooding church at 1:30, the Rev. E.W. Reichert of Monona officiating, with burial in the family lot in the Gooding cemetery.

We desire to express our heartfelt thanks to friends and neighbors who assisted in any way during the death and burial of our beloved father. Also to the minister for his comforting words and the floral offerings.
