Clayton County Register, April 11, 1929, page three

Arthur August William Hoth, was born December 24, 1890, in Boardman township, the fourth child of John Hoth and Louise nee Meyer. He was baptized September 13, 1891 in Zion Lutheran Church, at Clayton Centre, by Rev. F. Siefert. On April 16, he was confirmed by Rev. F. Hinnenberger. He attended public school until the age of 16. Janaury 28, 1914 he was united in marriage to Miss Charlotte Heins. This union was blessed with six children, four sons, and two daughters. Two children, twins, preceded the father in death.

The young couple moved to a farm in Read township, on the main highway 13. Here they lived and toiled faithfully and industrously for 15 years. Four years ago he underwent an operation in Rochester for gall bladder trouble. He never fully regained his strength after that but he still endeavored to do his work as faithfully as his strength permitted. last Christmas he was taken sick with the flu which left him in such a weak condition that he had to seek medical aid. On Easter day he partook of the Holy Sacrament, and the same night God relieved his servant from all suffering.

He had reached the age of 38 years, three months, and seven days.

He is deeply mourned by his grief stricken widow, Mrs. Charlotte Hoth, four children, Leroy 14, Lester 12, Helen seven and Rueben four, his aged parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Hoth, of Elkader, four sisters, Mrs. Hy. Glawe of Read Township, Mrs. Albert Breitsprecher, of Read Township, Mrs. Hy. Radloff of Grand Meadow Township, and Hilmah at home, four brothers, Emil of Farmersburg, Edwin and Willis of Boardman Township, and Elmer of Read township, his father-in-law, John Funk, of Elkader, and many other relatives and friends.

He was secretary of the creamery at St. Olaf for some years, treasurer of his school district and since the new year, secretary of Zion's Lutheran Church. Funeral services were April 10. Interment was made in the old cemetery of Zion's Church of Clayton Centre, Rev. Wm. Braun officiating. This poem was composed by Lester Hoth, age 12, after his father had passed away:

--------------------------------------------------------------

Our Papa
We'd like to have papa with us
And call him all our own,
But papa's gone to Heaven
And left us all alone.

Papa was a good man
And brave and true you know
That is the real reason
That we all miss him so.

We children feel so sorry
So mother and they all
But he obeyed the summons
Of God, his Father's call.

"Twas close to the midnight hour
Of th joyous Eastertide
That father left this earthly home
And entered into light.
