Sara Boleyn, 16

Sara Jo Boleyn, of Elgin, died Sunday morning, Dec. 31, 2006, at the University Hospital in Iowa City from injuries suffered in an auto accident on Dec. 11, 2006. She was 16.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007, at the Valley Community High School Gymnasium, rural Elgin. Pastors Jerome Godson and Lee Boleyn will officiate. Special music will be provided by Marilana Sutter, organist, and Mallory Marlatt, soloist. Casket bearers are: Randy Vorwald, Paul Fauser, Kirk Fauser, Chris Schmitt, Tom Junge, and Justin O'Brien. Burial will follow in the Elgin City Cemetery. Leonard Funeral Home of Elgin was in charge of arrangements.

Sara was born Feb. 26, 1990, in Decorah to Joan Kruse. Her mother married Michael Boleyn on July 25, 1998, and Michael adopted Sara shortly after.

Sara was baptized on March 3, 1990, at St. Lucas Catholic Church. She received her First Holy Communion on April 26, 1998, at Holy Name Catholic Church in West Union. She was confirmed on Dec. 7, 2003, at the Elgin Lutheran Church.

At the time of her death, Sara was a junior at Valley Community High School. She enjoyed playing basketball, babysitting, showing her chickens at the fair and camping. She was involved in 4-H, FFA, the Elgin Lutheran Church Choir and the drill team. She also enjoyed going to the dirt track stock car races to watch all of her local favorites. She also worked at Subway in West Union. She loved spending time with family and friends. Sara was a very busy girl and a "social butterfly."

Sara is survived by her parents, Michael and Joan Boleyn, Elgin; a brother, Joshua and a sister, Valerie, both at home; maternal grandparents, Leon and Shirley Kruse, Ft. Atkinson; paternal grandparents, Roger and Gretchen Boleyn, Elgin; maternal great-grandmother, Betty Kruse, St. Lucas; great-grandparents George and Edna Braaten, Austin, Minn.; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her maternal great grandfather, Alois Kruse; paternal great-grandparents, Gilbert and Esther Meyer and Leo and Frieda Boleyn.
